Anshu Thakur – COO & OSJ Principal

Growing up back in Kathmandu, Nepal, I never thought that one day I’d be working at a financial institution in the United States, enabling advisors to build successful and compliant business models that help their clients pursue their financial goals: but that’s exactly what happened.

Today I take special pride and pleasure in helping financial advisors conduct their business ethically, efficiently, and passionately – which I believe are three essentials for any successful financial advice practice.

From my younger days, I’ve regarded education as the key to a better understanding of one’s rights and responsibilities. I guess I am not in the “ignorance is bliss” camp, and I’ve always sought knowledge to get to the next step in my profession.

Professionally, I’ve put this into practice from the start of my career.  I joined my college Honors Program in Finance (that allowed me to meet Warren Buffet when I was just 20). Then, I worked as a stock research intern before becoming a financial advisor. I moved on from there to become a brokerage back office team member, and then, the compliance officer, and today – the OSJ manager.

I feel the same way today when I talk to our advisors about their advisory businesses, about how to navigate the various pitfalls.  That way they’re not only well prepared in building successful businesses, but able to do so with confidence and peace-of-mind.

I enjoy traveling, and every place I’ve been to has taught me something new about being human, and given me an education that no books or lectures can give. From time spent in the quiet of Huangshan Mountains in China, to seeing the extent of human capacity in Dubai UAE, or observing the simplicity of life in remote Nepal: all these experiences have shaped my thought and life in one way or the other.

Someday I hope to bring financial education to Nepal and help people understand the importance of financial planning for today and tomorrow.
